How often should you use a hair conditioning mask?
It is recommended to apply a mask at least once a week after washing with a suitable shampoo. A mask is very rich, and it cares for the hair by penetrating deep into the hair shaft. If your hair is brittle and dry, it is possible to use a mask twice a week.
After washing your hair, apply a small amount of product to towel-dried lengths and ends. The mask is a rich form of conditioner. No need to apply too much; just a small quantity will do. It is also imperative to respect a leave-in time of at least five minutes. If you don’t have the time to leave it in, it is preferable to use a spray or cream conditioner which will leave a smooth coating and enable you to detangle your hair.
How should you use/apply your mask and care for your hair?
To make sure you are applying the mask evenly throughout your hair, separate it into six sections.
- First section: Divide the section on the top of your head (above eye level) in half with a central part. Apply the mask to the lengths and ends, then gather it up into a small bun.
- Second section: the sides. Separate the hair from ear to ear around the back of the head and divide this section in half. Apply the mask to the lengths and ends, and add this hair to the bun on top if it is long enough
- Third section: the nape of the neck. If there are lengths remaining at the nape of the neck, divide this section in half and finish applying the mask.
Depending on how thick your hair is, you might increase or decrease the number of sections. Once you have left the mask in for ten minutes, take a wide-toothed comb and detangle the hair beginning at the ends. Once the hair is detangled, rinse thoroughly.
Do: You might also wrap your hair in a warm towel during leave-in time.
Don’t: Don’t apply your mask to the scalp. You might weight the hair down, leading to a lack of body and an oily scalp.
